Financial Aid Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide one-on-one and group counseling regarding federal, state, and private loan options, repayment plans, and financial literacy.
• Process federal and private loan certifications, disbursements, adjustments, and reconciliations in accordance with regulations.
• Review FAFSA applications, complete verification, and resolve discrepancies to ensure aid eligibility.
• Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports related to enrollment, scholarships, and aid disbursements.
• Coordinate institutional and external scholarship programs, including application processing and awarding.
• Partner with internal departments such as the Registrar, Admissions, and Bursar to streamline processes and resolve student issues.
• Deliver presentations at orientations, financial aid workshops, and other campus events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 2-3 years of professional experience in financial aid, banking, lending, or student services.
• Proficiency with Banner and PowerFAIDS.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and private loan programs.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information in compliance with FERPA standards.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Direct experience with loan processing, FAFSA verification, and electronic data transmissions.
• Experience working with scholarships or international student financial aid.
