Financial Aid Counselor

Responsibilities

• Counsel prospective, current, and graduating students on federal and private loan programs, including eligibility, application, and renewal.
• Provide individualized credit, private loan, and debt management counseling to assist students with long-term financial planning.
• Review and evaluate financial aid applications and ISIRs to determine eligibility and resolve conflicting information.
• Package federal and private loans in accordance with DOE regulations and lender requirements.
• Develop and deliver financial literacy education through one-on-one sessions, workshops, and presentations.
• Partner with Admissions, Registrar, Bursar, and Student Affairs to ensure seamless integration of aid with enrollment and billing.
• Maintain strict compliance with federal regulations, FERPA, Title IV, and lender policies.
• Monitor financial aid reports to ensure accuracy in disbursements and enrollment status.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 2+ years of experience in financial aid, higher education, banking, or loan counseling.
• Thorough knowledge of federal and private financial aid regulations, programs, and processes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree.
• Experience with federal and private loan processing, packaging, and regulatory compliance.
• Familiarity with financial aid systems such as PowerFAIDS, Jenzabar, or Banner.
