About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide skilled advising to students and parents via email, telephone, text, and video platforms.
  • Process financial aid documents and verify eligibility for federal, state, and institutional programs.
  • Assist with the administration of California state grants, Federal Pell Grants, and Federal Direct Loans.
  • Support the administration of university merit scholarship programs.
  • Manage the review of reports and analyze enrollment status to identify necessary aid adjustments.
  • Train and mentor Financial Aid Counselor I positions.
  • Collaborate with student accounts and other university offices to confirm financial aid data.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance in funds management and reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (two years of full-time experience in a similar position may be considered equivalent to one year of post-high school coursework).
  • At least one year of relevant financial aid work experience.
  • Knowledge of Title IV regulations and policies.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to use professional judgment to independently calculate financial aid offers.
  • Experience working with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks within concurrent deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills to minimize errors in high-volume environments.
