Financial Aid Counselor

Responsibilities

• Provide customer support to prospective and current students regarding the financial aid process
• Advise students on eligibility requirements, policy clarification, loan management, and financing options
• Determine student eligibility in accordance with institutional, state, and federal guidelines
• Utilize various technologies and systems to process financial aid awards and determine eligibility
• Use conflict resolution skills to assist students and parents in identifying solutions to complex issues
• Manage multiple projects and deadlines with a high level of attention to detail

Requirements

• Associate degree
• Two years of experience in higher education or another highly regulated field
• Proficiency in systems such as Colleague, NSLDS, COD, CPS, or ScholarNet
• Knowledge of personal income tax laws as they relate to federal financial aid
• Strong conflict resolution and professional communication skills
• Ability to interpret complex regulations and apply them to diverse situations

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree
• Two years of direct experience in financial aid administration
