Finance Specialist

Responsibilities

• Provide professional financial advice and recommendations to researchers and faculty regarding research grants and sponsored agreements
• Prepare and review quarterly and annual financial reports for research grants
• Monitor account activity to ensure correct program/cost centre charging and resolve discrepancies
• Prepare financial reports relating to projected and actual expenditures, revenues, cost recoveries, and salaries
• Assist in developing and streamlining financial policies and workflow procedures in accordance with University policies
• Troubleshoot complex financial issues and communicate solutions directly to faculty and staff
• Liaise with Financial Operations, Human Resources, Research Services, and external funding agencies
• Coordinate and provide training and support to users on the Workday system

Requirements

• High school graduation
• Certificate in Accounting or Payroll CPA Level 1
• Four years of related financial experience
• Intermediate proficiency in MS Excel
• Experience in financial reporting

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience using UBC financial systems
• Previous training in Workday
• Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements
• Strong ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail under pressure
