About the role

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate financial and administrative activities for the Michael Smith Laboratories, providing support to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Prepare and process complex financial documents, including expense reports, accounting journals, PO requisitions, and travel claims.
  • Act as a Workday delegate for credit card reconciliations, expense reimbursements, and other finance tasks.
  • Investigate and resolve errors or discrepancies in financial data and reconcile department operating worktags.
  • Interpret and communicate UBC and granting agency policies to ensure correct application to all transactions.
  • Provide guidance on funding availability and assist with year-end financial statement preparation and audit documentation.
  • Perform general administrative duties, including updating faculty CVs and providing departmental reception coverage when required.

Requirements

  • High school graduation.
  • Two-year post-secondary diploma in accounting.
  • Three years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience using Workday to enter, retrieve, and interpret data.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure with high attention to detail.
