Field Safety Specialist

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to bridge, marine, and heavy civil construction projects.
• Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors to promote a culture of accountability.
• Lead investigations into safety incidents and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations and company safety standards.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate safety performance and provide reports to leadership.

Requirements

• Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education).
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally within heavy civil or transportation sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and relevant safety standards.
• Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and access all points of a site in various climates.
• Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional certification in safety management (e.g., NCSO).
• CPR/First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
• OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications.
