About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety plans and procedures specific to bridge, marine, and heavy civil construction projects.
- Conduct regular site inspections to identify potential hazards and assess safety risks.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs for employees and subcontractors to promote a culture of accountability.
- Lead investigations into safety incidents and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations and company safety standards.
- Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate safety performance and provide reports to leadership.
Requirements
- Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety management, ideally within heavy civil or transportation sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations and relevant safety standards.
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment and access all points of a site in various climates.
- Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional certification in safety management (e.g., NCSO).
- CPR/First Aid or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
- OSHA/MSHA instructor certifications.
