About the role

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the project leader for the Marine Resources Program’s commercial finfish field operations team.
  • Oversee field operations by supervising staff, managing hiring and performance, and guiding career development.
  • Administer budgets, contracts, and project resources.
  • Direct data collection, develop sampling designs and protocols, and coordinate field activities.
  • Manage coastal pelagic species activities and represent ODFW in regional and federal management forums.
  • Plan and evaluate research projects in collaboration with NOAA Fisheries.
  • Communicate project findings through reports and data summaries to fishery managers, stakeholders, and the public.

Requirements

  • Option 1: Six years of biological experience in a fish or wildlife program, including at least one year at a technical/professional level and one year of leadwork or supervisory experience.
  • Option 2: Bachelor's degree in Fisheries, Wildlife Science, or a closely related field with at least 45 quarter hours of biological/ecological coursework, three years of biological experience, one year of technical/professional experience, and one year of leadwork or supervisory experience.
  • Master's or Doctorate degrees in relevant biological sciences may substitute for a portion of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading or supervising a fishery monitoring project.
  • Experience developing and implementing project proposals.
  • Experience monitoring budgets and tracking expenditures.
  • Experience drafting project and contract reports.
  • Experience working with commercial fishermen and/or processors.
