Field Operations Engineer

Responsibilities

• Plan and run end-to-end field testing campaigns including gear preparation, execution, and post-test debriefs
• Provision and configure drones and hardware by loading software releases and tuning flight parameters
• Manage hardware registry and inventory for the Sydney workshop
• Run software-in-the-loop simulation testing to surface issues before field deployment
• Triage field issues, package bug reports for software teams, and analyze field data
• Support domestic and international demos with on-site hardware and communications support
• Build and maintain SOPs, operator manuals, and field documentation

Requirements

• Hands-on experience with drones or UAVs (flight controllers, ESCs, radios)
• Familiarity with ArduPilot or similar flight stacks
• Proficiency with Linux command line
• Experience with CAD and 3D printing
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Willingness to travel for field testing (approximately one week per month)
• Australian citizenship

Preferred Qualifications

• Remote Pilot Licence (RePL) or ReOC experience
• Experience in competitive engineering projects (e.g., solar car, robotics teams)
• Defence or military background involving UAS or military communications
• Field, deployment, or expedition experience in demanding environments
• Software or scripting ability for automation
• Experience with simulation environments or startup environments
