Field Network Technician - BESS

Responsibilities

• Deploy, configure, and maintain field-level communications infrastructure for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
• Specify and configure routing, switching, wireless, and security hardware including Cisco, Fortinet, Ubiquiti, and Cradlepoint
• Implement segmented OT networks using VLAN management, VPN configuration, and firewall policies
• Integrate industrial communication protocols such as Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, DNP3, MQTT, and OPC-UA
• Support commissioning of BESS, SCADA servers, RTUs/PLCs, and EMS platforms
• Diagnose hardware, software, and protocol issues using tools like Wireshark and SolarWinds
• Implement cybersecurity controls aligned with NERC CIP and NIST 800-82
• Maintain as-built network diagrams, IP addressing plans, and equipment inventories

Requirements

• 2+ years of hands-on network engineering experience in industrial, utility, or field-deployment environments
• Proven experience in commissioning or deploying project networks
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, STP, VLANs, VPNs, NAT, DHCP, and DNS
• Experience working with OT, SCADA, or industrial controls
• Ability to read and interpret network and control architecture drawings
• Willingness to travel up to 80% for site integration and deployment

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering
• Certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, Palo Alto PCNSE, Fortinet NSE4+, or GICSP
• Direct experience with BESS, utility-scale solar, or electrical power infrastructure
• Experience with structured cabling and fiber termination
