Field Evaluations Engineer

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site engineering evaluations to determine product compliance with regulatory authorities and installation codes.
• Perform documentation reviews, visual and mechanical inspections, and electrical testing on products.
• Independently determine project scope, develop investigation plans, and analyze client input and product construction.
• Communicate with clients and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to explain technical issues, UL procedures, and requirements.
• Resolve complex engineering issues by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of field-based product evaluations.
• Develop test requirements, special test methods, and test equipment for products involving unique features.
• Represent UL at industry meetings, seminars, and trade shows.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or Physics from an ABET accredited program.
• Eight years of directly related experience.
• Expert knowledge of Building Codes, National Electrical Code (NEC), and regulatory/conformity standards.
• Experience with Electrical Test Equipment and conducting electrical tests on products.
• Experience with Hazard Based Safety Engineering (HBSE) concepts.
• Ability to travel frequently for on-site evaluations, including potential international travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to apply project-handling concepts to complex, new, or modified products.
• Working knowledge of current industry issues, needs, and problems.
