Field Deployment Engineer

About the Company

Focal builds intelligent robotic radiant heating systems for outdoor restaurants. Our products combine precision mechanics, electronics, and sensing to deliver targeted warmth using far less energy than traditional heaters.

Responsibilities

• Perform on-site installation of electromechanical heating systems
• Execute system commissioning including mechanical integrity checks, electrical verification, and networking setup
• Perform basic troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and networking components
• Replace units, perform repairs, and validate fixes
• Execute scheduled maintenance visits and document site conditions
• Flag recurring issues to engineering and maintain clean service logs
• Coordinate install timing with site managers

Requirements

• Technical training in mechanical, electrical, robotics, or a related field
• 1–3 years of experience in hardware installation, field service, or IoT devices
• Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, laptops, and diagnostic software
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to use ladders and work at moderate heights
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured checklists

Preferred Qualifications

• Startup hardware experience
• Degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or robotics
• Networking knowledge including WiFi troubleshooting and signal strength analysis
• Experience with field deployments of physical infrastructure (energy, robotics, IoT, HVAC)

Benefits

• Base salary of $75,000-$90,000/yr
