Family Law Attorney

Responsibilities

• Conduct intakes, client interviews, and legal assessments
• Provide safety planning and legal referrals to clients
• Advise and represent survivors of domestic violence in family law and matrimonial cases
• Represent the organization at community events, stakeholder meetings, and legal clinics
• Conduct community outreach and education with community-based partners
• Provide training to legal and community members, such as "Know Your Rights" sessions
• Comply with grant requirements regarding Crime Victims' Assistance
• Develop relationships with government agencies and the domestic violence community
• Collaborate with social work teams to assist clients with non-legal support services

Requirements

• J.D. and admission to the New York State Bar
• 3-5 years of matrimonial and family law practice in New York City
• Excellent analytical, writing, communication, and oral advocacy skills
• Trial and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Fluency in Spanish, Bengali, or other languages common to the client community
• Experience working directly with survivors of domestic violence
• Demonstrated passion for public interest law and social justice
