Export and Trade Compliance Director

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and legal guidance regarding US trade compliance, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and CBP regulations.
• Operationalize trade compliance programs to ensure adherence to export controls, specifically for advanced computing and semiconductor sectors.
• Monitor legal, regulatory, and trade developments to mitigate business impacts and provide timely guidance.
• Lead the drafting of strategic export licenses and other necessary regulatory filings.
• Manage and provide guidance to a global team of trade compliance and operations professionals.
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders in Legal, Finance, HR, Engineering, and Supply Chain to build integrated compliance processes.
• Direct the creation of trade compliance policies, risk assessment programs, and continuous improvement activities.
• Implement technology tools to streamline trade compliance operations and lead strategic planning for the compliance roadmap.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in the United States.
• Licensed Customs Broker.
• 10+ years of experience advising multinational businesses on legal trade compliance, including U.S. export controls and sanctions.
• Proven experience managing and developing a team of trade compliance professionals.
• Deep expertise in U.S. export controls, sanctions regulations, and import compliance (HTS classifications, valuation, etc.).
• Strong ability to distill complex legal concepts into digestible terms for business stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the semiconductor industry or a closely related high-tech field.
• Technical or engineering background.
• Experience managing outside counsel and departmental budgets.
