About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in a wide variety of exercise and physical fitness techniques in individual or group settings.
  • Lead sessions including aerobic training, calisthenics, weight training, flexibility, and stretching.
  • Facilitate specialized programs such as Yoga, Pilates, or Zumba if qualified.
  • Offer general suggestions and tips for lifestyle changes through increased exercise frequency and duration.
  • Recommend strategies for strength, flexibility, and conditioning within a group setting.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA guidelines to protect participants' personal health information (PHI).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a health-related field (e.g., nutrition, exercise physiology, public health, health education) or a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with current State of Michigan Licensure.
  • At least one year of experience leading fitness or exercise classes within the last three calendar years.
  • Current ACE (American Council on Exercise) or ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) certification.
  • Specialized fitness certification (e.g., Zumba, Yoga, Pilates, or Group Fitness).
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Thorough understanding of basic behavioral or cognitive psychology principles to facilitate lifestyle changes.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and tailor coaching messages to individual capabilities.
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary teams to support health improvement goals.
  • Proficiency in communicating via multiple channels, including in-person, telephone, email, and virtual meetings.
