Executive Underwriter - Primary Construction

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and manage a portfolio of large, complex, loss-sensitive construction accounts, including annual contractor practice programs and multi-year wrap-ups.
• Evaluate construction risks and analyze exposures to determine appropriate pricing, program structure, coverage, and terms for new and renewal business.
• Drive growth and ensure retention of the assigned book of business across the Midwest and Southwest regions.
• Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with brokers and clients.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including claims, risk control, actuarial, and credit, to create comprehensive client solutions.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior underwriters.
• Maintain high service standards through timely responses to broker requests and accurate documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 5+ years of underwriting experience, specifically within the primary casualty loss-sensitive space.
• Deep understanding of Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability insurance coverage.
• Knowledge of large deductible programs and their associated credit and collateral implications.
• Proven ability to identify risk exposures, analyze claims and loss trends, and select risks based on hazard analysis.
• Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in the construction industry.
• Established relationships within the local broker and insurance marketplace.
