About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership for the Occupational Health and Safety Division
  • Lead a team of managers and directors to promote worker safety and accident prevention across Nova Scotia
  • Oversee regulatory and non-regulatory programs, including inspection, compliance, and enforcement
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with safety partners and represent the division on local, regional, and national committees
  • Manage human and financial resources while promoting a diverse and healthy workplace culture

Requirements

  • Several years of leadership and management experience, including a minimum of three years at the senior level
  • University degree or significant related experience in occupational health, workplace safety, or a regulatory environment
  • Progressive experience in policy and program development and operational management
  • Proven ability to build and manage stakeholder relationships at an executive level
  • Strong negotiation, decision-making, and communication skills
  • Ability to lead complex organizations and execute strategic change

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing regionally dispersed teams
  • Experience working within municipal, provincial, or federal government
  • Experience representing a jurisdiction's interests on national or multi-jurisdictional committees
