About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a Chapter Sustainability Plan tied to annual revenue and long-term growth
- Secure major gifts from corporations, philanthropies, and high-net-worth individuals
- Lead the Chapter’s operational portfolio including staff, volunteers, programs, and budget
- Recruit, develop, and steward a high-performing local Advisory Board
- Build a robust ecosystem of civic, military, corporate, and nonprofit partners
- Serve as the senior BSF representative and chief ambassador in the Hampton Roads region
- Manage and coach the Program Director/Manager and volunteer corps
- Implement data-driven evaluation models to measure community impact
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or 7+ years of experience in community development, nonprofit leadership, or strategic partnerships
- 5+ years of management experience including direct staff leadership
- Proven ability to secure six-figure philanthropic gifts
- Demonstrated success in growing an organization or major initiative
- Exceptional executive communication and public speaking skills
- Experience managing an advisory board or similar governance structure
- Must reside within the Hampton Roads metropolitan area (or have lived there for 3+ years)
- Willingness to work nights/weekends for community events and travel up to 25%
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using CRM systems, specifically Salesforce
- Understanding of military culture and the lived experience of military families
- Knowledge of the local nonprofit network in the Hampton Roads area
