About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the overarching commerce strategy for WIRED across tech, home, and lifestyle categories
- Identify and launch new direct-to-consumer e-commerce experiences to disrupt traditional affiliate models
- Lead a dedicated team of writers, editors, and producers to deliver high-quality commerce content
- Build and execute audience growth strategies via newsletters and social media to drive repeat monetization
- Secure strategic alliances and multi-year contracts with tier-one retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart
- Partner with product, data, and editorial teams to optimize the on-site e-commerce experience and reduce friction
- Manage profit and loss, including revenue forecasting, personnel costs, and long-term business planning
- Synthesize consumer trends and purchasing data to inform editorial decisions and drive key commerce KPIs
Requirements
- 15 years of dedicated content and commerce experience, including experience scaling a business
- 5 years of leadership and people management experience
- Proven experience running a direct-to-consumer business, including managing first-party data
- Expertise in direct email marketing strategy to maximize audience engagement and lifetime value
- Strong vendor and partner relationship management skills with a commercial mindset
- Proficiency in Google Sheets and deep knowledge of SEO best practices
- Ability to communicate complex strategies and present results to senior executives
