About the role
Responsibilities
- Conceptualize and create core special events, including developing event plans and managing all logistics for simultaneous events.
- Manage venue options, negotiate catering and multimedia contracts, and handle travel arrangements for speakers.
- Coordinate conferences, forums, and workshops in both in-person and virtual formats, including registration and post-event reporting.
- Collaborate with the Communications Coordinator to design websites, brochures, and advertising materials.
- Oversee event budgets, prepare invoices, and liaise with university finance departments.
- Facilitate participation of senior academic speakers and coordinate with volunteers, presenters, and committee members.
- Maintain a detailed database of provincial, national, and international contacts.
Requirements
- Two-year diploma in Hotel Management, Hospitality, Tourism, or Event Management.
- Minimum of two years of related experience in event coordination.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to compose professional business correspondence.
- Ability to travel to various venues and events around the Lower Mainland.
- Ability to work on weekends or outside of regular work hours on occasion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience managing healthcare-related events and conferences, specifically for diverse and multi-cultural communities.
- Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license.
