Evening Resident Advisor

Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been at the forefront of transforming lives by providing comprehensive shelter, housing, and wrap-around support services for vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth for over 50 years.

Responsibilities

• Directly engage, supervise, and support youth residing at the ROP site
• Ensure the site and youth rooms are clean and kept in a safe condition
• Orient youth to site expectations, mission, and child protection protocols
• Assist youth with daily preparation, including ensuring they are awake and fed
• Cook or assist in cooking meals for up to 20 youth
• Monitor program and client activities to ensure a safe and secure environment
• Provide support to Case Managers with paperwork, filing, and appointment follow-ups
• Maintain records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) computer system
• Escort youth to other agencies and services such as hospitals or school visits
• De-escalate crises and attend to emergencies following agency protocol

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED, or one year of relevant work experience
• Interest in working with youth who have experienced homelessness
• Strong multi-tasking skills
• Excellent verbal, written, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays
• Strong focus on child protection and resident safety

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree
• Experience working with at-risk youth
• Driver's license with comfortability driving a 7-passenger van
