About the Company

Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been at the forefront of transforming lives by providing comprehensive shelter, housing, and wrap-around support services for vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth for over 50 years.

Responsibilities

  • Directly engage, supervise, and support youth residing at the ROP site
  • Ensure the site and youth rooms are clean and kept in a safe condition
  • Orient youth to site expectations, mission, and child protection protocols
  • Assist youth with daily preparation, including waking, feeding, and timely departures
  • Monitor program and client activities to ensure a safe environment
  • Cook or assist in cooking meals for youth and facilitate post-meal cleanup
  • Support Case Managers with paperwork, file maintenance, and appointment follow-ups
  • Maintain records in the Efforts to Outcomes (ETO) computer system
  • Escort youth to external agencies, hospitals, or school visits
  • Lead or participate in recreational and holiday activities
  • Complete incident reports and de-escalate crises following agency protocol

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or one year of relevant work experience
  • Interest in working with youth who have experienced homelessness
  • Strong multi-tasking and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to respond positively to supervision and coaching
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Strong focus on child protection and resident safety

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience working with at-risk youth
  • Driver's license with comfortability driving a 7-passenger van
