About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including bulldozers, landfill compactors, and front-end loaders in a safe and efficient manner
- Grade ditches, roads, ash, and prepare finished slopes to required tolerances
- Perform machinery maintenance, including troubleshooting fluid leaks, mechanical wear, and system malfunctions
- Conduct thorough cleaning of machines, including removing belly pans, washing radiators, and cleaning cabs
- Maintain complete and accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Assist with transfer operations and cover lunch periods for other operators on the working face
- Supervise a small number of helpers and communicate effectively with the team
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Minimum of one year of experience operating heavy equipment
- Valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Physical ability to perform intensive cleaning and maintenance tasks
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of heavy equipment experience
- Experience within the solid waste industry
