About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate, clean, and maintain heavy construction, water, or aviation equipment depending on departmental assignment.
- Perform tasks in Public Works including operating bulldozers, road graders, asphalt pavers, and backhoes for street maintenance and grading.
- Support Water Department operations by operating tractors, skid steers, dump trucks, and specialized sewer maintenance equipment.
- Maintain airport operations by operating snow removal equipment, street sweepers, and brush hogs in compliance with FAA and TSA regulations.
- Conduct routine running repairs and ensure the safe operation of all assigned machinery.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Ohio Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes qualification.
- Four years of certifiable heavy equipment experience (e.g., graders, bulldozers, heavy loaders) or equivalent City of Dayton service.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to pass a drug screen and a nicotine screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating specialized machinery such as hydro excavators or airfield movement area equipment.
- Proficiency in radio communication for aviation or municipal coordination.
