Environmental Technician

Responsibilities

• Collect, package, label, treat, store, and verify hazardous, radioactive, and mixed waste
• Operate wastewater retention tanks, perform pump-outs, and manage waste container storage areas
• Perform waste testing and sampling using field instrumentation such as pH meters and radiation survey instruments
• Operate vehicles up to 5-ton trucks and material handling equipment including forklifts
• Respond to environmental emergencies and support decontamination activities
• Maintain detailed records and provide customer service to waste generators

Requirements

• Associate degree in environmental science or equivalent experience
• Knowledge of State and Federal hazardous and radioactive waste regulations
• Familiarity with radiation survey instruments and pH meters
• Understanding of chemistry principles and radioactive contamination control
• Ability to wear respiratory protection and meet physical requirements
• Effective communication and customer service skills
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for DOE Q-level security clearance
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug test and medical exam
