About the role

Responsibilities

  • Lead the site EHS function and ensure alignment with Western Digital objectives and Japan regulatory requirements
  • Direct compliance with Japanese laws, permits, and reporting obligations regarding safety, environment, and chemical management
  • Drive risk management, hazard identification, and incident prevention programs
  • Oversee occupational safety programs including machine safety, ergonomics, and industrial hygiene
  • Manage chemical safety, hazardous materials, waste governance, and pollution prevention
  • Strengthen emergency preparedness, response planning, and business continuity
  • Implement and improve ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership to integrate EHS requirements into business operations
  • Monitor EHS performance metrics and lead continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop organizational capability through coaching, training, and talent development

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in a related field
  • 8-10+ years of EHS, environmental, or sustainability experience
  • Strong knowledge of Japan regulatory requirements and International Safety Standards
  • Lead Auditor certification for ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
  • Experience in manufacturing, high-tech, or industrial operations
  • Native-level Japanese and business-level English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification in EHS, environmental management, or industrial hygiene
  • Experience in multinational or matrix organizations
  • Experience supporting regulatory inspections and customer audits
  • Familiarity with contractor safety management and machine safety
