About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day legal support for business units, developing relationships with key leaders to drive positive results
  • Provide legal analysis and counsel on environmental and enforcement matters, including potential litigation
  • Represent the Company in dealings with federal, state, or local environmental agencies and third parties
  • Draft, review, and negotiate environmental agreements such as permits and consent decrees
  • Collaborate with environmental consultants and engineers to develop air permitting and compliance strategies
  • Conduct research into legal issues to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and Company policy
  • Coordinate and oversee outside counsel to ensure proper handling of legal matters

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant legal experience (major law firm, corporate legal department, or government agency)
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one state (Texas bar membership preferred)
  • Environmental law background with specific experience in air permitting, compliance, or enforcement
  • Strong research, writing, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated track record of resolving environmental enforcement matters through litigation or administrative settlements
  • Ability to travel domestically as required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with regulated industries
  • Prior experience with environmental compliance counseling and advice
  • Experience negotiating directly with government agencies
  • Experience with litigation and/or administrative, civil, or criminal enforcement matters
  • Demonstrated record of leadership and initiative
