About the role
Responsibilities
- Install, align, test, and document diagnostic hardware and Final Optics assemblies up to 70 lbs in support of NIF shot operations
- Provide mechanical support for assembly, installation, operation, repair, and maintenance of NIF mechanical and vacuum subsystems
- Perform quality assurance inspections and upload files to computer databases
- Hoist and rig large loads; troubleshoot mechanical and electrical assemblies
- Work on and around X-ray sources and safely handle radiologically contaminated components
- Record data, identify process improvements, and interact with scientists, engineers, and technicians
Requirements
- A.A. in Mechanical or Electrical Technologies, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-Level Security Clearance
- Ability to use a respirator, work in confined spaces and clean rooms, and lift and push 50 pounds
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to adhere to written procedures
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with operation and maintenance of vacuum systems
- Experience using complex computer control and data acquisition systems for opto-mechanical devices
- Experience in a nuclear, military, or highly technical laboratory environment
- Demonstrated ability to work on complex optical, electrical, and mechanical systems
