About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain research equipment, including welding robots, metrology, and sample preparation tools
- Train, mentor, and monitor graduate and undergraduate students on equipment use
- Create written standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all laboratory machinery
- Manage machine scheduling, track consumable billing, and provide general lab oversight
- Ensure a safe learning environment by following and monitoring strict safety protocols
Requirements
- Associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field
- 1-3 years of experience in mechanical or electrical operation, laboratory testing, or machinery repair
- Proven experience operating robots, computers, and related software
- Experience with the operation, calibration, maintenance, and repair of scientific equipment
- Ability to move and transport equipment up to 30 lbs
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in machining, fabrication, and the use of basic hand/power tools
- Experience developing and implementing operation and safety plans
- Experience training and correcting novice users in a laboratory setting
- Knowledge of sensors, data acquisition, control, and metrology
