About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain complex laser experimental facility via GUI-based computer control systems
- Configure, align, test, and document diagnostic systems including optical tables, oscilloscopes, cameras, and trigger generators
- Support setup and execution of plasma interaction experiments and data acquisition
- Troubleshoot, commission, and perform maintenance/calibration on diagnostics in radiological environments
- Assist with optical, mechanical, and electrical problem-solving for diagnostic systems
- Follow safety, security, quality, and efficiency (SSQE) procedures
- Work flexible shifts including weekends and 12-hour schedules in a 24/7 operational facility
Requirements
- AA in Laser/Electro-Optics, Mechanical or Electrical Technologies or equivalent experience
- Diagnostic instrumentation experience (oscilloscopes, interferometers, spectrometers, photometers, multimeters, power supplies)
- Computer control and data acquisition systems experience
- Ability to work in confined spaces, lift and push 25 pounds, use ladders, and work from various heights
- Eligible for DOE Q-clearance; U.S. citizenship required
- Experience working independently and in teams in time-critical, complex organizations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in laser alignment, optical, opto-mechanical, and electro-optical design
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
