Engineering Site Lead

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering efforts in India with a focus on high-impact outcomes and platform capabilities
• Define the shape, capabilities, and growth of the India engineering organization
• Own local engineering culture, including hiring, onboarding, and retention
• Build Starburst's employer brand through industry engagement and community presence
• Engage directly with enterprise customers in technical discussions and pre-sales
• Partner with Sales, Solutions Engineering, and Customer Success to translate needs into priorities
• Collaborate closely with the Warsaw, Boston, and San Francisco engineering hubs

Requirements

• 12+ years of overall engineering experience
• 5+ years in engineering leadership
• Proven track record of building engineering presence in India
• Hands-on background in distributed systems, data engineering, or adjacent domains
• Proficiency in Python, Java, SQL, or Spark
• Experience engaging enterprise customers in commercial conversations
• Strong cross-timezone and cross-cultural collaboration skills
• Familiarity with open source communities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the data/analytics space (data lakehouse, query engines, cloud infrastructure)
• Background at companies like Confluent, Databricks, Snowflake, or Cloudera
• Experience working with teams based in Poland or Central/Eastern Europe
