About the role
Responsibilities
- Design and execute experimental investigations into process-structure-property relationships for advanced engineering materials
- Operate cold spray additive manufacturing systems and contribute to powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition programs
- Develop physics-based computational models using finite element analysis to complement experimental findings
- Apply CAD tools such as ANSYS and SolidWorks to produce geometric models for experimental specimens
- Lead technical writing for sponsored program reports and contribute to multiple peer-reviewed publications annually
- Mentor and train undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory settings
- Develop curriculum and deliver hands-on training as part of Department of Defense workforce development programs
Requirements
- Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, materials science, physics, or a closely related discipline
- Demonstrated expertise in the characterization and testing of crystalline materials, including metals and ceramics
- Strong background in additive manufacturing processes and the mechanics of materials
- Proficiency in data analysis and automation using software platforms such as Matlab and Python
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with data-driven engineering methods, particularly those leveraging artificial intelligence or machine learning
