Engineering Manager - Query Execution Platform

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers in the design, development, and support of a highly-parallel and fault-tolerant database system
• Grow the team through recruiting, interviewing, and hiring in a competitive market
• Manage career development, providing continuous mentorship, coaching, and guidance to reports
• Lead technical, design, and product discussions
• Translate product requirements into actionable engineering work
• Collaborate with Engineering and Product leaders on quarterly planning, staffing, and project schedules
• Shift resources across projects to achieve execution goals and respond to customer feedback
• Deliver complex projects while maintaining a high-quality bar
• Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and practical decision-making

Requirements

• 12+ years of hands-on software engineering experience
• 5+ years of engineering management experience
• Proven track record of recruiting and leading technical teams
• Strong engineering fundamentals with query processing experience (compile time and/or execution time)
• Expertise in related database technologies
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Outstanding written and oral English skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong database fundamentals including SQL, performance optimization, and schema design
• Background in database internals or large-scale data processing systems (e.g., Hadoop, Spark)
• Prior experience running database internal engineering teams
• Experience with roadmap documentation, project plans, and RCAs
• German language skills
