Engineering Manager, Notifications

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of full-stack engineers building and operating the notifications platform using Elixir, Python, and Kubernetes
• Set technical direction for notifications infrastructure to ensure reliability and scalability
• Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing to define and execute the roadmap
• Use experimentation and metrics to drive improvements in engagement, retention, and user trust
• Build a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and engineering best practices
• Partner with platform consumers across Discord to evolve shared primitives
• Collaborate with engineering leadership on strategic planning and organizational improvement

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer building backend or infrastructure systems at scale
• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager
• Experience with Elixir, Python, pubsub/streaming pipelines, and Kubernetes
• Proven track record of growing engineers and helping team members succeed
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to engage deeply with technical decisions
• Ability to drive a culture of fast iteration and high-quality delivery

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading teams that own shared platforms or primitives
• Experience shipping push notifications or re-engagement systems at consumer scale
• Full-stack experience across both frontend and backend development
• Success driving impact through experimentation and data-driven decision making
• Understanding of the gaming industry and Discord's core features
