Engineering Manager ChatGPT Infra

Responsibilities

• Found and lead a small, talent-dense engineering team in London responsible for foundational runtime systems powering ChatGPT.
• Drive the development of core infrastructure primitives, including runtime frameworks and service integration patterns.
• Define and evolve the technical architecture of the ChatGPT runtime to support rapid growth and new feature capabilities.
• Partner with product and research teams to ensure infrastructure enables rapid development while maintaining high reliability.
• Own system reliability, including incident response and evolving operational models for global infrastructure.
• Hire and develop the early London team, establishing the technical bar, culture, and operating model for the local office.

Requirements

• 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, specifically building large-scale distributed systems, developer platforms, or infrastructure products.
• Proven experience leading high-caliber engineering teams, ideally within startup or early-stage environments.
• Experience operating in 0→1 or high-ambiguity environments where systems are built from scratch.
• Experience running production systems in cloud environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Ability to remain deeply technical as a leader, contributing to architecture and design decisions.
• Based in or willing to relocate to London, UK.
