Engineering Lead, Payments Platform

Responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers, setting goals, development targets, and providing continuous feedback and development plans.
• Partner with product managers and stakeholders to define the product roadmap and prioritize projects for incremental production delivery.
• Develop REST services and integration components within a backend microservices architecture.
• Conduct architectural reviews for current and upcoming technical solutions.
• Address technical debt and enhance operational effectiveness, specifically focusing on MTTD and MTTR.
• Contribute to the hiring, training, and professional development of the engineering team.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on low latency and distributed systems.
• At least 1 year of experience in team management.
• Strong computer science fundamentals (experience with Java or Kotlin and Spring/Spring Boot is highly valued).
• Proven experience designing and building REST APIs and high-volume distributed systems.
• Proficiency with Kafka event streams and distributed data storage systems (e.g., Cassandra, Hazelcast, or Oracle Coherence).
• Experience with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS) and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with operational tooling such as New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, or ELK.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building payment gateways, acquiring platforms, or issuing platforms.
• Experience integrating Local Payment Methods (e.g., iDeal, Klarna, Trustly) or major Card networks (Visa, Mastercard).
