Engineering Associate 1

Responsibilities

• Model, analyze, and strategically develop the electric transmission system for near-term and long-term planning horizons.
• Build and validate transmission planning models using tools such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, PSCAD, and DSATools.
• Perform steady-state, short-circuit, and dynamic stability assessments to identify system deficiencies.
• Ensure all planning studies and documentation meet applicable NERC reliability standards (e.g., CIP, FAC, MOD, PRC, TPL).
• Assess interconnection requests for new transmission, generation, and major load additions.
• Coordinate interconnection studies with ERCOT, neighboring transmission owners, and external developers.
• Prepare technical reports and planning recommendations to support capital project justifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
• Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas.
• Knowledge of power system modeling and NERC reliability standards.
• Experience with power system analysis software such as PSS®E, PowerWorld, or DSATools.
• Proficiency with programming or database tools such as Python or SQL.
• Strong analytical, technical writing, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with the Bulk Electric System (BES).
• Knowledge of ERCOT policies, protocols, and guides.
• Experience with NERC audits and reliability compliance.
• Experience with Computer Aided-Drafting (CAD) or Bentley Microstation.
• Experience in project management and contract development.
