About the role

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain the Central Plant, district heating system, 4th Class Guarded Plant, and heat recovery installations.
  • Perform regular rounds to inspect mechanical equipment and conduct necessary mechanical services.
  • Provide running maintenance, including checking lube levels for compressors and adjusting controls for laboratories, classrooms, and offices.
  • Respond promptly to trouble calls, alarms, and emergency situations during assigned shifts.
  • Monitor computer printouts and Building Automation Systems to take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and University of Toronto Trades Services during shifts.
  • Maintain accurate daily log sheets regarding operating equipment and significant shift events.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks such as cleaning piping, boilers, and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid 4th Class Operating Engineer Certification in the Province of Ontario.
  • Strong working knowledge of mechanical equipment, including refrigeration, heating (boilers), and air handling systems.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Windows OS.
  • Familiarity with computerized Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, afternoons, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Building Environmental Systems Certificate.
