About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide emergency response command, control, and liaison capabilities for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations.
- Perform field-level shift supervision, including leading, guiding, and directing assigned Bureau staff.
- Act as part of a Unified Command Structure, coordinating with university police and municipal responders to mitigate incidents.
- Enforce the provisions of the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code during assigned shifts and special events.
- Manage operations involving hazardous materials and mass-casualty incidents.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in firefighting, EMS, fire code enforcement, or hazardous materials mitigation.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of firefighting experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
- Valid NJ Driver's License.
- NJ Approved Firefighter I and II certifications.
- NJ Approved EMT certification.
- NJ Approved Fire Inspector certification.
- NJ Approved Incident Management Level I (including ICS 100, 200, NIMS 700, and NIMS 800).
- NJ Approved Hazardous Materials Response Awareness and Operational Levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience as a Fire Department command-level officer (e.g., Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, or Chief).
- Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) certification.
- Hazardous Materials Technician certification.
- New Jersey Approved Hazmat On Scene Incident Commander.
- New Jersey Approved Fire Instructor I.
- Extensive experience in Fire Code Inspection.
