About the role
Responsibilities
- Develop, promote, and implement university-wide emergency management, continuity planning, and organizational resilience programs
- Lead the planning, preparation, and administration of emergency exercises, including logistics and post-exercise reporting
- Create and maintain hazard-specific emergency response plan annexes, policies, and workplace procedures
- Provide guidance to university departments regarding federal, provincial, and municipal regulations and UBC policies
- Deliver strategic training programs and develop practical tools to assist staff and faculty in resilience planning
- Manage project financial duties, including budgeting and cost accounting
- Supervise an Emergency Management Associate and coordinate with contract workers or student staff
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline
- Certification in emergency planning, business continuity, or a related field
- Minimum 4 years of specialized experience in emergency management or continuity planning
- Knowledge of the BC Emergency Program Act and related regulations
- Experience conducting and designing emergency exercises
- Advanced report writing, analytical, and program planning skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience implementing preparedness programs within academic, research, or government organizations
- Knowledge of enterprise risk management and business continuity principles
- Project management or personnel management experience
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse academic, administrative, and union groups
