Emergency Department Technician

Responsibilities

• Provide technical patient care services under the supervision of an RN
• Assist nurses and physicians with bedside procedures such as chest tube insertion, lumbar puncture, suturing, and splinting
• Collect and document patient health data, including vital signs, intake and output, and 12-lead EKGs
• Perform point-of-care testing and recognize/report abnormal findings to providers immediately
• Deliver first aid, including wound irrigation, dressing application, and use of warm/cold compresses
• Assist with patient mobility, including ambulation and the use of assistive devices like wheelchairs and walkers
• Respond to medical emergencies, including delivering CPR and using BVM for respiratory failure
• Maintain a safe environment by managing combative patients through verbal de-escalation and assisting with restraints when necessary
• Ensure patient safety by adhering to infection prevention policies and fall prevention protocols

Requirements

• National Registry EMT, LA County EMT, Paramedic, CNA, or PCT certification
• BCLS or ACLS certification
• Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department Technician experience (or equivalent certification listed above)
