About the role
Responsibilities
- Champion microscopy technologies and advanced applications for R&D and business needs
- Operate and maintain an Electron Microprobe (EPMA)
- Solve energy industry problems using advanced microscopy techniques
- Support microanalysis instruments and sample preparation tools
- Coordinate daily lab operations and guide technical assignments in collaboration with scientists
- Provide technical expertise to research programs and business units
- Oversee and train microscope users
- Maintain documentation for procedures, calibrations, and results
Requirements
- M.S. in Material Science, Physics, Geoscience, or a related field with research experience
- Or a B.S. with 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience
- Experience operating and maintaining an electron microprobe (EPMA)
- Proficiency in quantitative analysis using WDS and EDS
- Proficiency with sample preparation techniques for electron microscopy
- Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage lab operations safely
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with additional microanalysis tools such as SEM, FIB, TEM, SIMS, x-ray CT, or optical microscopy
- Experience applying image processing and statistical analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB, ImageJ, or R)
- Proficiency with JEOL EPMA software and/or Probe for EPMA
- Experience in metallography or petrography
