About the role

Responsibilities

  • Act as the single point of accountability for the JEOL JBX-8100FS electron-beam lithography tool, managing its operation, maintenance, and scheduling.
  • Deliver high-resolution patterning services to both internal academic researchers and external industrial partners under fee-for-service contracts.
  • Translate partner-company requirements into manufacturable, yield-critical micro- and nano-device processes.
  • Monitor and optimize all lithography processes to ensure maximum tool uptime and consistent, repeatable results.
  • Serve as a senior technical advisor to stakeholders, including C-level and VP-level executives, regarding the feasibility and design of engineering solutions.
  • Design, develop, and qualify novel process modules and capabilities to expand the facility's service portfolio.
  • Provide expert training and mentorship to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates.
  • Ensure all laboratory tasks conform to safety legislation and workplace protocols.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Applied Science.
  • Minimum of five years of related experience in micro- or nano-fabrication.
  • Expertise in high-resolution electron-beam lithography.
  • Experience in micro- and nano-device development.
  • Proficiency in photolithography and etching processes.
  • Knowledge of SEM and various metrology tools for device characterization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Applied Science, Physics, or Chemistry.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with >50kV high-throughput electron-beam lithography systems (e.g., JEOL JBX-8100FS).
  • Proven track record of delivering functional devices in academic, industrial, or commercial R&D environments.
  • Proficiency with BEAMER software or equivalent lithography control suites.
  • Experience managing NDA-protected projects and interacting with industrial stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Linux-based operating systems and scripting for hardware interfacing.
