Electrician

Responsibilities

• Maintain and ensure the safe operation of all electrical systems and equipment through preventative maintenance on controllers, transformers, and machinery wiring
• Install new circuitry for equipment and lighting across campus facilities
• Assist in maintaining emergency generator system-related equipment
• Obtain necessary electrical work permits and ensure compliance with all City and County electrical codes
• Work closely with on-site contractors to ensure all work meets current electrical standards
• Perform work assignments via the university work order management software system
• Maintain accurate records of all work performed and assist with inventory control
• Support campus safety by performing duties to keep facilities secure for students, staff, and faculty

Requirements

• Trade School or Industrial Apprenticeship degree in Electric or Electronic Trades
• Minimum of 5 years of experience as an electrician
• Current Journeyman Electrician License (with "A" Card in good standing)
• Current Chicago Supervising Electrician License or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of Chicago electrical codes and Cook County permitting requirements
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in high or confined spaces
• Valid Driver's License in good standing
• Ability to supply own hand tools and work irregular hours if required
• Must become a member of IUOE Local 399 within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior work experience in a university or research environment
• Proficiency with MS Office software and experience using work order management systems
