About the role
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical distribution systems and equipment up to 600V
- Maintain campus site lighting and low-voltage power distribution systems
- Install conduit, cable, switchboards, panels, and circuit breakers
- Perform maintenance on variable frequency drives (VFDs), mass warning signals, and traffic control signals
- Utilize utility locating equipment to identify and troubleshoot underground infrastructure
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, drawings, and instruction books
- Perform preventive and predictive maintenance using tools such as insulation testers and thermal imaging cameras
Requirements
- State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with 4 years apprentice + 2 years journeyman experience, OR State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with 8 years of electrical trade experience
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet University’s Fleet Safety Program
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions (OSHA, NFPA, NEC, and EPA)
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions, including heights and areas with noise or fumes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with lighting control systems and troubleshooting
- Experience working with Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
- Experience with commercial/industrial and three-phase electrical systems
- Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (e.g., Metasys)
- Experience using diagnostic tools such as power analyzers or thermal imaging
