About the role
Responsibilities
- Conduct scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests using schematics and location circuit plans
- Perform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotive cabs and electrical compartments
- Troubleshoot and diagnose electrical systems and components to determine root causes of malfunctions
- Utilize shop machinery, equipment, and tools effectively and safely to complete tasks
- Communicate technical information and job procedure recommendations verbally and in writing
- Ensure strict compliance with all safety regulations, operational protocols, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines
Requirements
- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or a current journeyman's electrical card
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints
- Proficiency in keyboarding and competence in basic mathematics
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Successful completion of an English language assessment
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized formal electrical training program (community college, trade school, or military)
- An Associate's degree in electricity or electronics
- Experience handling large motor generators or high-voltage circuitry
- Proven expertise working with electro-mechanical systems
- Experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions or in confined spaces
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime, holidays, and weekends
