Electrician Diesel Engines

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose, and repair intricate electrical systems in diesel-electric locomotives
• Conduct scheduled electrical inspections and circuit tests using schematics and location circuit plans
• Perform maintenance and repair of electrical components in locomotive cabs or electrical compartments
• Troubleshoot malfunctions in locomotive control circuits and components to determine root causes
• Utilize shop machinery, equipment, and tools effectively and safely
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, operational protocols, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) guidelines
• Communicate technical information and job procedure recommendations verbally and in writing

Requirements

• Possession of a valid driver's license
• Background in electronics, control systems, AC/DC motors, or possession of a current journeyman's electrical card
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and prints
• Proficiency in keyboarding and competence in basic mathematics
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to successfully complete an English language assessment
• Ability to pass a Physical Ability Test (PAT)

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of a recognized formal electrical training program (community college, trade school, or military)
• Possession of relevant electrician certifications or licenses
• An Associate's degree in electricity or electronics
• Experience working with high-voltage circuitry or large motor generators
• Experience working outdoors in diverse weather conditions or in confined spaces
• Previous experience in environments requiring personal protective equipment (PPE)
