Electrician Apprentice

Responsibilities

• Perform building maintenance and repairs on campus electrical systems, ranging from three-phase primary voltages to low-voltage control systems, in compliance with NFPA 70 standards
• Interpret drawings, schematics, blueprints, and product manuals to resolve service issues
• Prepare material lists for projects and manage inventory for the electrical shop
• Execute electrical services for major and minor renovation and remodel projects
• Participate in inspection schedules for fire alarm systems, elevators, building automation systems, and backup generators
• Assist other Facilities Services departments, such as Grounds, Heating Plant, and Plumbing, as needed
• Maintain cleanliness of work areas and maintenance vehicles
• Assist with snow removal and remain available for scheduled after-hours work or emergency situations

Requirements

• High School diploma
• State of Iowa Electrical License (Journeyman’s license preferred)
• Four years of formal electrical installation and repair experience
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
• Proficiency with computers for accessing work order systems, building automation, and email
• Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various physical conditions, including heights and confined spaces
