About the role
About the Company
American Terawatt is building a new industrial electric grid for the United States. We design and deploy advanced power transmission systems, serving large industrial loads, hundreds of megawatts at a time, from frontier AI datacenters to highly automated manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Develop Macrogrid hardware to handle rapid, large power transients and protect generators and sensitive loads
- Design large-scale, long-distance HVDC networks connecting Macrogrids across the country
- Engineer custom transmission components to simplify, scale, and accelerate deployments
- Perform modeling and testing including short-circuit, coordination, grounding, and arc-flash analysis
- Work with suppliers to ensure availability of COTS hardware for R&D and scaled delivery
- Manage relationships with engineering counterparts at EPC firms to ensure projects meet specifications
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 3+ years of commercial engineering experience
- Direct experience designing for high-voltage applications
- Hands-on experience with power systems modeling tools such as ETAP or SKM PowerTools
- Experience in the full engineering lifecycle from concept to commissioning
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with grid interconnection processes and utility coordination
- Knowledge of NEC, NERC, IEEE, and ANSI standards
- Background in data center or high-density compute power infrastructure
- Familiarity with DC transmission architectures
