EHS Staff Specialist, Environment

Responsibilities

• Serve as the designated EHS leader for Illumina’s Boulder site, supporting the implementation of EHS programs, training, and systems.
• Collaborate with the Global EHS team to implement global strategies, policies, and best practices.
• Monitor and assess emerging EHS laws and regulations to determine operational impacts and develop risk management plans.
• Lead key EHS business processes, including risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Manage environmental programs such as hazardous waste, industrial wastewater, storm water, and air emission requirements.
• Partner with Human Resources and Risk Management to manage the workers' compensation program.
• Prepare and deliver training in areas such as chemical/lab safety, radiation safety, ergonomics, and emergency response.
• Drive continuous improvement and lean methodologies to enhance safety culture and operational effectiveness.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of related experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Proven EHS leadership skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Strong understanding of applying EHS regulations and standards to a physical site.
• Experience in environmental compliance and managing various lab safety programs (e.g., radiation and biological safety).
• Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic, and global business environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the IVD, Medical Device, or Life Sciences industry.
• Professional safety certifications such as CSP, CHMM, or CIH.
